f(design) was a collaborative firm I started with my sister-in-law (and fellow architect), Karen Zellner, during the summer of 2008. We began spending a lot of time discussing design, art, and the moment at which the two touch. We operated f(design) part time, while Karen was finishing her undergraduate work and I was working at TBS. Most of our work was unpaid, experimental, and grown from our joint interests in creating quirky social commentary. For me, it was a fantastic opportunity to gain a better understanding of my place in the design world. Being able to dive into f(design) wholeheartedly, without a professor or a boss telling what I should be doing, was an extremely liberating experience. Karen eventually took a position with Bohlin Cywinski Jackson in Pittsburgh, and soon after, I moved to New York City where I continued to peruse my varied design interests, with Ground Up Designers.
