Professional Experience
So far my professional work has been limited to TBS Services and f(design) which again compete at opposite ends of the spectrum.
My work at TBS Services is extremely technical and service driven. And my work with f(design) is completely fun and design oriented. I think the creation of f(design) may have even stemmed from being at TBS doing such technical work all day long.
I take all of my work very seriously and work very hard to make sure that whatever I am working on is done neatly, correctly, and passionately. I have had a really enjoyable time with both TBS and f(design) so far and have learned a lot from both of them.
TBS Services Inc. :
TBS is an architectural consulting firm that focuses on the building envelope system. Usually working on educational facilities, TBS works at a level of meticulous detail to make sure that every connection in the building is tight and weatherproof. At TBS I worked with project managers on a number of projects from start to finish, helping with site surveys, field reports, and schematic, construction, and as-built documentation. I typically used AutoCAD and Microsoft office, but also completed a number of schematic renderings using Adobe Photoshop.
Looking toward my future goals of operating my own multidisciplinary design firm I requested to work on a number of office management type projects as well. These projects consisted of, designing and implementing a new company website and marketing information, as well as, developing new signage for the office and construction sites.
f(design) LLC. :
I started f(design) with my sister-in-law Karen during the summer of 2008. We were both working at TBS, and through a series of unfortunate events, both living at her parents’ house, spending way too much time around each other. In a desperate attempt to get more design oriented work into our lives, escape the technicalities of TBS as well the craziness of 6 Zellners all living in one house, we decided to start a small firm primarily operating around furniture, lighting, and fashion. We intend on taking f(design) into the realm of architecture, when we are licensed and experienced enough to do so. But for the time being f(design) remains a creative outlet for both of us, and a name to submit our competitions under.
For a while we ran the firm out of Francesca (our former business partner)’s garage attic, but after the winter hit and we almost froze to death we moved all the stuff to my tiny Philadelphia apartment, where it replaced my living room.
We have a couple built projects, but the majority of our work is theoretical. It is our major goal to bring light to phenomena of our everyday life that usually get ignored, passed by, and unnoticed. We operate at a satirical place somewhere in between the past and the future.
